Behavior assessment

Every program starts with understanding. Our BCBAs assess your child's strengths, needs, and the reasons behind challenging behavior.

Two kinds of assessment

Skills assessment

Standardized and criterion-referenced tools, direct observation, and caregiver interviews to map communication, social, play, learning, and daily-living skills.

Functional behavior assessment (FBA)

Identifies when, where, and why a challenging behavior happens — the "function" — so the plan teaches better ways to meet that need.

The process

  1. Caregiver interview and review of records (diagnostic report, IEP, other therapy reports).
  2. Direct observation at home, clinic, or school.
  3. Assessment sessions with your child, kept playful and paced to their comfort.
  4. Written report with recommended goals, service hours, and a behavior support plan where needed.
  5. A meeting with you to review results and agree on priorities before anything is submitted to insurance.

Reassessment

Progress is formally reassessed about every six months (or as your plan requires) to update goals and authorization.
